10 Things Tech-CoFounders Should Look for In Entrepreneurs

1. COMMUNICATION

Are they nice? I think this is the first and most important sign to look out for. How does the entrepreneur communicate in that initial call or Skype meeting? Is he or she nice, too authoritative, or does he come across as an a-hole! Seriously, pay close attention to how an entrepreneur responds and speaks during this initial conversation or email.

2. EGO

Does the entrepreneur use words like “I” and ‘My” vs. “We” and “Ours”. This will tell you if you’re dealing with an egomaniac or not. Often time’s entrepreneurs can be obsessed with the fact that it’s their idea and tend to forget who will be building the actual technology.

3. TRACTION

Has he or she made any efforts to draw up mockups of the idea on ( Balsamiq, Lumzy, or MobiOne )? Have they conducted any surveys? What were the outcomes? Do they have any validation from potential partners, incubators - or better yet - customers!

4. EXPERIENCE

Are they a repeat entrepreneur? What successes or failures have they had in the past that will add value to the current idea? If they’re a first-time entrepreneur, then look for more traction.

5. DATE FIRST

CoFounding is a “No Dive Zone”. As exciting as a project may be, with founders that may seem awesome, refrain from jumping into things too quickly. Build and work on something small together first as a compatibility and competency test for both parties. But once the dating period is over, get right down to business. Get things in writing (e.g. equity shares, salaries, vesting schedules etc.).

6. PASSION/COMMITMENT

First, are you passionate about the space and the problem the entrepreneur is solving? Second, how long has the entrepreneur been working on this concept/idea? This could be a testament to their willingness to see the project through. How committed and vested are they emotionally & financially? How focused are they on this single idea alone? Be wary of the ‘ideas guy’ who typically can’t execute on any single idea.

7. CONNECTING

There’s a difference between networking and connecting. You want to connect with your potential cofounder and the best way to do this is outside of the office, over lunch, or even a beer. Wait, can you even have a beer with this person!?

8. TECHNICAL & LONG-TERM VISION

What happens after you build the MVP? What will you be building? Will it challenge you? Does the entrepreneur have a long-term technical vision for the product?

9. REFERENCES

What do other people think about them? Check their LinkedIn for references, don’t be afraid to ask them for references and ask around town.

10. AUTONOMY

Will you have input and the freedom to innovate NOT just code all day? Does the entrepreneur take FUN seriously? @Fitly fun is mandatory : )

Getting your family to eat healthy is not always easy. With the summer air in the mix everyone is always happy to have a cool snack, so now is a great time to sneak them something nutrient packed. On the road and in a rut?

Eat Healthy On The Road This Summer

By: Rebecca Ohnona

Summer is an awesome time for families to plan trips, get on the road and vacation while the kids are out of school. While it is great for families take this opportunity to bond and engage in fun activities, parents can't forget the importance of eating healthy while on the road. Although it may be tempting to just stop at fast food restaurants for meals and snacks on the way to your destination, it is important to show your kids that you can always eat healthy, whether at home or on vacation.

Is your family going on a road trip? Make sure to prepare!

Healthy snacking will keep your kids happy, calm and smiling. Some healthy snacks to bring on the road include apples, Greek yogurt, almonds, cheese sticks, whole grain cereal, berries, light popcorn, carrots and dark chocolate. Try to prepare meals before you get in the car so you won’t be tempted to stop for fast food on the road!

Make everyone his or her favorite sandwich on whole wheat bread. Some healthy varieties include natural peanut butter and jelly with bananas, turkey breast with hummus, low-fat cheese with tomato slices and chicken salad with avocado.

Despite all of the healthy varieties, time may not always be on your side. If you do find yourself at a fast food restaurant for lunch or a gas station for a quick snack, check out these good options:

At McDonald’s, try a Premium Grilled Chicken Classic Sandwich, which has 28 grams of protein and only 350 calories. For less calories and carbohydrates, don’t eat the bun or only eat half.

For breakfast, McDonald’s has a Fruit and Maple Oatmeal for 290 calories and 5 grams of protein.

For snacks, they sell packs of apple slices and Fruit N’ Yogurt Parfaits.

Find yourself at a Dunkin Donuts? No problem! They now have a line of Egg White Flatbreads, which are good options.

Avoid bagels and opt for English Muffins to save 170 calories.

Ask for reduced fat cheddar instead of American cheese and cut 15 calories.

Always avoid the frozen drinks. These are all extremely caloric and contain a lot of sugar.

At any gas station market, there are plenty of healthy snacks you can find. For the kids, buy Greek yogurts or cheese sticks. For you, grab a pack of raw almonds or carrots and hummus.

Whether you pack your own, or find yourself stopping at seemingly unhealthy locations for food, remember that you can always find healthy options!

Have fun!

Knock, knock! "Delivery!"

Yesterday, in conjunction with The Fresh Grocer, we delivered our first order to our partners at Penn Medicine

We started at The Fresh Grocer where our team picked up the groceries needed to prepare the meals on our menu.

Our founder + CEO, Anthony Ortiz (Fitly t-shirt), at The Fresh
Grocer to ensure that all proper ingredients were ready
to be delivered to our customers.

How we deliver is simple:
We park outside of your office or community center from 3-7pm.
You drive up to our truck, when you get off work, and give us your order information.
We load your car with all needed ingredients and meal prepping instructions on site!

Although we are currently in our 5 month pilot and are only delivering to our partners, our meal options are publicly accessible so you can keep up to date with what type of meals we offer. Once we are set to fully launch, our delivery service will be widely available. We just need 20-40 people to 'unlock' a location.  You can build up to unlock your delivery site by entering the zip code of your office or local community center on our website www.fitly.org . Once we see enough interest for that location, we can then begin communication to get your site, and the families involved, on board with our service!

We truly appreciate all of the support!
